Our community was formed in Kitty Ryan's parlor where we gathered around a small table for Eucharist whenever a priest was able to come to Warrensburg. In 1874, we officially became "St. Cecilia's" founded by Bishop McNierney and Father James A. Kelly. To this day, we continue to gather around the table, tell stories, break bread, and share the cup in memory of Jesus Christ. We thank all who have gone before us passing their faith to us. We pray for the grace to live faithfully and continue to pass the faith to others.
Sister Linda Hogan csj
is Saint C's Parish Life Director* appointed by Bishop Howard Hubbard in 1998. "SLH" is a Sister of Saint Joseph of Carondelet with a BA in Math, MA in Spirituality, and Master of Divinity degree. Sister has been a Math Teacher, Religion Teacher, Youth Minister, Pastoral Associate, then a Parish Leader. She has worked in the Syracuse Diocese, Fairbanks Diocese, and now the Albany Diocese. Sister has been in parish leadership since the mid 80's. She is a quilter, a dog-lover, is fascinated by the natural world, and loves to learn.
In the Albany Diocese, "Parish Life Director" is the title given a "non-priest" who leads a parish. A "PLD" is responsible for the Church, working with an assigned "Sacramental Minister" who offers Eucharist, Baptizes, Marries, Anoints, and celebrates Reconciliation with the Community. Saint Cecilia's is incredibly blessed to have Father Paul Cox as our priest. Father Cox has been here since 1998 as well. Here is an interesting fact: the present generation of young people at St. C's have grown up with, and have only known, a woman "pastor"!!! Yes, we are Roman Catholic.
Father Paul Cox
Gail DeMarsh has been Pastoral Associate for Administration at St. Cecilia's since 2011. Prior to that she was a Real Estate Paralegal. She is a mother of 2, grandmother of 7 and a great-grandmother. Her favorite past time is watching her youngest grandson play youth hockey. At St. C's, Gail directs the Youth Ministry and is the backbone of the Annual Youth Mission Trip. She is always in the background of the K-6 Faith Formation as the "go to" person. Wonder what is going on or where a certain meeting is? Ask Gail! Gail is a "key player" on the golf tournament committee and is Sister Linda's right hand. (Without Gail, Sister wouldn't know where ANYTHING was!)
