History and Future Planning

On December 25, 2003, John and Anna Mombach of New Hyde Park, New York, gifted St. Cecilia’s Church with 89.5 acres of Adirondack woodland in Stony Creek, New York.  The year-round log cabin with two-car garage, screened-in porch (providing safety from the bugs in June and July!), perennial and vegetable gardens, and view of the mountains is a place of peace and relaxation.  The gift was given for the purpose of providing a place of rest and renewal for church ministers and church members.  In addition, the Mombachs hoped that the property would be available for various opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Since acquiring the property, St. Cecilia’s Church has  developed two-and-a-half miles of hiking trails on the property including a “Trail Guide and Environmental Information Center.”  An outdoor information booth at the trail head is completed and an indoor center is in the future plans.  The study of “eco-spirituality” is an on-going project.

The parish has numerous picnics and snow-shoe parties, as well as gatherings for prayer, study, and support and outings for persons with mental handicaps.  The cabin is often used by religious women, priests, and lay church ministers for days of prayer and re-invigoration.  Parish couples are encouraged by our Marriage Ministry to "get away without going far away."  West Wing is just seventeen miles from Warrensburg.
